Historic Riverfront 5K Run/Walk
Since 2005 the St. Anthony West Neighborhood Organization Fundraising Committee has planned, organized, and hosted the Historic Riverfront 5K Run/Walk on Boom Island in Northeast Minneapolis. The event is a timed distance run on a measured 5K (3.1 mile) course and has included runners, walkers, and four-legged participants.
The race is held annually and awards prizes and achievements each year. Longtime sponsors include Mill City Running and Kramarczuck’s. Since 2023 the event has been coordinated in partnership with the Sheridan Neighborhood Organization to share organization and expand the fundraiser.
The event raises funds for neighborhood initiatives and programs run by STAWNO and SNO that aim to bring neighbors into contact, support civic engagement, and create opportunities to improve local quality of life. Registration practices are seasonal: pre-registration opens yearly in mid-summer; after pre-registration closes online, in-person registration is available the Friday before the race at Mill City Running, and same-day registration is available at Boom Island on race morning. Early packet pick up is available the day before at Mill City Running, with an in-store merchandise discount for pick up.
Volunteer roles are used to organize and staff the event, and volunteer opportunities are part of the event operations. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
