Hillacious Half Marathon
The Hillacious Half Marathon is a running event held in Litchfield, Connecticut, starting at the American Legion Post 27. The event is designed to honor military personnel and their families, with a focus on effort and endurance. All proceeds from the registration fees, after covering race expenses, are placed into a local fund to provide direct support to local military members and families.
Participants can choose from three main distances:
- 13.1 Miles: A solo half marathon on a course that includes numerous hills.
- 6.5 Miles: A two-person relay where each participant runs approximately half of the course. Transportation is provided to move relay runners to and from the halfway point.
- 4 Miles: A timed walking and running option that follows a loop on the same course.
The event is characterized by a lack of prize money or medals. Instead, the first-place male and female finishers have their names engraved on perpetual trophies kept at the Morgan-Weir American Legion Post 27. Participants have the option to purchase personalized dog tags engraved with a veteran's name to wear during the race. In addition to financial contributions, the event also collects food and coat donations to benefit local shelters and pantries.
