HerrinFesta Road Races
The HerrinFesta Road Races take place in Herrin, Illinois, featuring a variety of distances held on Memorial Day. The event utilizes a course layout focused on Park Avenue, providing participants with a route that starts and finishes in the central city area.
Available distances include:
- 10k (6.2 miles)
- 5k Walk (3.1 miles)
- Park Avenue Mile (1 mile)
- Kids Mile (1 mile)
The 10k course is described as flat and fast, containing only four right turns. It begins in front of Banterra Bank on South Park Avenue and heads North, dropping approximately 30 feet over the initial 1.75 miles. Following a turn onto East Diaz Street and then 13th Street, runners follow a 2.75-mile straight section. The final segment returns to Park Avenue at the 4.8-mile mark, leading to a finish at City Hall. This concluding stretch is largely a gradual downhill with a slight elevation change over railroad tracks with 1/3 of a mile remaining.
The 5k Walk starts near Herrin City Hall and merges with the 10k route after approximately two blocks. For those seeking shorter distances, the Park Avenue Mile and the Kids Mile follow a straight course from South Side Lumber to the finish line at City Hall. The mile events commence following the conclusion of the local Doughboy Ceremony. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
