Event Overview
The Fly with the Eagles Half Marathon takes place at the Southern Illinois Airport in Murphysboro. This event marks the 21st running of the race, which utilizes the airport grounds as its primary location. Participants gather at Airport Hanger 600 N. Airport Rd for an event centered around the local aviation infrastructure.
Distance Options
The event offers the following participation methods:
- 13.1 Miles: An in-person half marathon course starting and ending at the airport hanger.
- Virtual Half Marathon: A 13.1 mile option that can be completed on a treadmill or any outdoor course.
Course Details and Logistics
This is a cupless event. To reduce waste, water cups are not provided at aid stations. Instead, volunteers use water pitchers to refill the personal bottles or hydration packs carried by participants. For the in-person race, results and placements are determined by gun time.
Awards and Amenities
All finishers receive a custom finishers medal. Specialized awards are presented to the top three overall male and female finishers. Age group awards are also distributed to the top performers in divisions ranging from 19 and under up to 70 and over, in five-year increments. Participants who register by the specified January deadline receive a hooded sweatshirt. Virtual participants also receive the custom medal and sweatshirt after submitting their times via email.
