Heron Trot Family Run/Walk
The Heron Trot Family Run/Walk is an outdoor athletic event held at Big Lagoon State Park in Pensacola, Florida. This event takes place on Halloween and encourages participants to wear costumes while they navigate the park grounds. The gathering serves as a fun run designed to accommodate various preferences for terrain and distance.
Participants can choose between two distinct route options:
- A 5 km road course for those who prefer running on paved surfaces.
- A shorter route that utilizes the park's trail system for runners and walkers.
The event provides snacks and race t-shirts for participants, though t-shirts are typically guaranteed only for those who register by the specified early deadline. Prizes are also awarded as part of the festivities. Children aged 12 and under may participate for free, although this registration tier does not include a commemorative shirt.
Located at 12301 Gulf Beach Highway, the park offers a natural setting for the race. After the run, participants have the opportunity to spend the rest of the day exploring the state park. The event is organized by the Friends of Pensacola State Parks to support local park maintenance and projects. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
