Heroes for Military Kids 5K and Kids Dash
The Heroes for Military Kids 5K and Kids Dash is an inaugural community running event held on April 11, 2026 in Melbourne, Florida at The Avenue Viera. The event honors veterans, active duty service members, and the children of military families while raising awareness and support for healing and resilience within those families.
The AVET Project, a 501(c)(3) all-volunteer nonprofit, organized the event. Program elements include a 5K run/walk and a free kids fun run described as a 50 yard dash. Awards are planned for top finishers overall, masters (40 and older), and top three in multiple age groups through 80 and over.
Packet pickup and registration are available the day before at Running Zone and there is packet pickup and late registration on race day at The Avenue Viera. Entry fees are listed as Adults $30 with a higher race day fee and Child $25 with a higher race day fee. The event will be conducted rain or shine and the policy states there are no refunds. A course map is noted as coming soon. Race management and timing services are provided by Running Zone Race Management, Inc.
The event description uses a dandelion metaphor to describe military children as resilient and adaptable as they move between homes and schools. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
