Event overview
The AVET Project, a 501(c)(3) all-volunteer nonprofit, will host the inaugural Heroes for Military Kids 5K and Kids Dash on April 11, 2026. The event is intended to honor veterans, active-duty service members, and their children, and to raise awareness and support for military families. Awards will be given to the top three overall men and women, top masters (40+) men and women, and the top three men and women in each age group: 13 & under, 14-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70-79, and 80+. Registration opens January 15, 2026. The event is held rain or shine and the policy states there are no refunds.

Location and practical information
The race takes place at The Avenue Viera, 2261 Town Center Ave., Melbourne, FL 32940. Packet pickup and registration are available the day before at Running Zone, 3696 N. Wickham Rd., Melbourne, and there is on-site packet pickup and late registration at The Avenue Viera on race day. Entry fees listed are Adults $30 (race day $35) and Child $25 (race day $30).
