Fayetteville Firefighters' Hero Half Marathon
The Hero Half Marathon is a community running event organized by The Spark Foundation in partnership with the Fayetteville Firefighters' IAFF - Local 2866. This event serves as a fundraiser for local organizations and community fitness initiatives within Fayetteville and Arkansas. Participants can choose from several road race distances or virtual options for those unable to attend in person.
The following distances are available:
- 13.1 miles (Certified Half Marathon)
- 13.1 miles (Firefighter Challenge in full gear)
- 6.55 miles (Quarter Marathon)
- 5k road race
The event features a unique Firefighter Challenge for active duty or volunteer firefighters. Participants in this category complete the 13.1 mile distance wearing full bunker gear, which includes a helmet, coat, pants, and air pack. Wildland gear is also acceptable for this challenge.
The 5k course follows an out and back route starting at the Northwest Arkansas Mall, heading toward the intersection of Skull Creek and Mud Creek trails before returning to the mall. Participants in the 5k receive a finisher medal, though race shirts are not provided for this specific distance.
For the Half Marathon and Quarter Marathon, age group awards are presented to the top three male and female finishers in each division. Registrations completed by September 12, 2026, include a guaranteed long-sleeved tech hooded t-shirt. Virtual participants receive their race packet, shirt, and giveaway items by mail.
