H.E.R.O. Freedom Run
The H.E.R.O. Freedom Run is a community running event held on June 19, 2026 at Freedom River in Hamburg Township near Brighton, Michigan (6716 Winans Lake Rd., Brighton, MI 48116). This is the fourth annual edition and features two distance options:
- 1 Mile Fun Run
- 5K Run/Walk
The event uses a cross-country type course that includes trails, fields, and slight hills. The race is chip-timed and will be professionally timed by the Michigan Running Foundation. Packet pickup is available at the registration table on race day. Parking is available on site.
Proceeds support construction of a HERO picnic refuge among the trees near Gill Lake at Freedom River. Freedom River, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and operates Freedom River as an outdoor recreation facility for veterans and their families.
Registration for the distances is listed at the following prices: 1 mile $25 and 5K $30. Registration packets include a commemorative race T-shirt while supplies last, amusement ride VIP passes for the Hamburg Family Fun Fest (pack of three), free parking for the race, and goody bags. Awards include medals for all finishers and trophies for first-place finishers and overall male and female. Live results will be available on the event website.
