About the race
The Hermannslauf is a point-to-point running event over a distance of 31.1 km from Detmold to Bielefeld through the Teutoburger Wald. The competitive start is located near the Hermannsdenkmal. There is also an organized walking option on the same route with a gross time recording.
Start groups are used to organise the field; runners are assigned to groups A to E based on performances from recent Hermannsläufe or comparable results. The walking group is included in the grouping system. Changes of start group on site are not possible.
Organiser-provided bus shuttles transport participants from Bielefeld and from the Detmold station to the start at the Hermannsdenkmal. Private vehicle access to the start area is restricted. At the finish area on the Sparrenburg promenade there is a separate Mini Hermann for younger participants and facilities for changing and showers are signposted behind the finish.
Practical arrangements include on-site start number collection at the Lenkwerk and an additional pick-up location in Bielefeld, an option for postal delivery of start documents within Germany for a fee, and a clothes-bag system collected at the Bismarckstein by the THW with colour-coded handling instructions. Dogs, baby joggers and audio players are not allowed on the course. Official results, certificates and finish photos are published online after the event. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
