About the race
The Rab Helvellyn Sky Ultra is a marked mountain ultra running event in the Central and Eastern Lake District. The course covers 57 km with 3700 m of ascent and is based in Patterdale on 17 July 2027. Entry fees are shown as £120, £130, and £140 and the maximum allowed time is 14.5 hours. No vetting is required for entry.
The route is classified as a "Sky Extra" by Skyrunning UK and awards ITRA/UTMB ranking points. The course is now run in an anti clockwise direction to reduce congestion on Striding Edge and Swirral Edge. Runners traverse five ridge-lines, pass Red Tarn and numerous other tarns, and gain views of Windermere, Ullswater and Haweswater.
Terrain includes grassy trods, well-worn mountain paths, bare rock and scree, bog and open fell. Support and safety provisions listed for entrants include a fully marked course, one fully supplied feed station, two valley support points, 11 manned checkpoints, GPS tracking and timing from Open Tracking, and a professional safety officer with a mountain qualified safety team. Finish items noted in the entry include a wild flower seed bomb medal and a post-race vegan salty soup.
