Rab Helvellyn Sky Ultra : event overview
The Rab Helvellyn Sky Ultra is a marked ultra-distance mountain race based in Patterdale on Saturday 18 July 2026. The course distance is 57 km with 3700 m of total ascent. The event has a maximum allowed time of 14.5 hours and is classified by Skyrunning UK as a "Sky Extra" race. Minimum age to enter is 19 years. Entries open 4 October 2025 and close 28 June 2026. Entry fees are staged: £120 (early), £130 (from 01/01/2026) and £140 (from 01/04/2026).
Course, safety and included services
The route runs across central and eastern Lake District terrain and traverses several exposed ridge-lines, including Striding Edge and Swirral Edge. Surface types include mountain paths, bare rock, scree, grassy trods and bog. The course is now run in an anti clockwise direction. The event is not a vetted race.
Included with entry are a fully marked course, one fully supplied feed station, two valley support points, and 11 manned checkpoints. GPS tracking and timing are provided by Open Tracking, and the event awards ITRA/UTMB ranking points. A professional Safety Officer and a mountain-qualified safety team support the race. Additional included items noted are a wild seed-bomb medal and post-race salty vegan soup. Optional extras such as a cotton tee, goat-bells and post-race massage are available.
