Overview

The Helvellyn Sky Ultra is a marked trail running event in the Lake District. It is classified as a "Sky Extra" race by Skyrunning UK and is part of the Skyrunning UK series. The course covers a distance of 57 km with 3,700 m of ascent.

Route and Terrain

The event runs in an anti-clockwise direction through the central and eastern fells of the UNESCO Lake District. The route includes paths, trails, rock, scree, bog, and open fell. It traverses five ridge lines: Lower Man to Helvellyn, Swirral Edge, Striding Edge, Cofa Pike, and an ascent from Haweswater to High Street.

Logistics

The event has a maximum allowed time of 14.5 hours. The course is fully marked and features one fully-supplied feed station, two valley support points, and eleven manned checkpoints. GPS tracking and timing are provided. ITRA/UTMB ranking points are awarded.

Entry and Inclusions

Entries for 2025 are scheduled to open on 4 October 2025. There is no vetting required for entry. The entry fee includes a wild flower seed bomb medal, post-race vegan salty soup, and professional safety management by a qualified team.
