Rab Helvellyn Sky Ultra - 57 km, 3,700 m ascent
The Rab Helvellyn Sky Ultra is a course-marked mountain race covering 57 km with 3,700 m of ascent in the Central and Eastern Lake District, based around Patterdale. The route crosses five ridge-lines and passes notable features such as Red Tarn, Striding Edge and Swirral Edge, with views toward Windermere, Ullswater and Haweswater.
The event is classified as a high-technical skyrace and includes one fully supplied feed station, two valley support points and 11 manned checkpoints along the route. GPS tracking and timing are provided by Open Tracking. The race awards ITRA/UTMB ranking points and is supported by a professional safety officer and a mountain-qualified safety team. Maximum time allowed on course is 14.5 hours. The event is not a vetted race.
Entries open on 1 October 2026 and close on 27 June 2027. Minimum age on race day is 19 years. Entry fees are listed with staged increases: initial fee £120, rising to £130 from 30 November 2026 and £140 from 31 March 2027. Included for entrants are a course marking, post-race vegan salty soup, a wild seed bomb medal and options to join a tree planting scheme. Optional extras are offered through the event entry system.
