About the race

The Rab Helvellyn Sky Ultra is a marked mountain race held in Patterdale in the English Lake District on 17 July 2027. The course covers 57 km with 3700 m of ascent and has a maximum time limit of 14.5 hours. Entrants must be at least 19 years old on race day.

The route travels over Lake District paths, trails and rock, crossing five ridge-lines and passing notable features such as Red Tarn, Striding Edge and Swirral Edge. The race offers views of Lake Windermere, Ullswater and Haweswater and includes a mix of high-level technical ground and valley sections.

Logistics provided as part of entry include a fully marked course, one fully supplied feed station, two valley support points, and 11 manned checkpoints. The event uses GPS tracking and timing from Open Tracking and awards ITRA/UTMB ranking points. A professional Safety Officer and a mountain-qualified safety team support the event. Entrants receive a wild seed bomb medal and may opt to join a tree planting scheme. The race was classified by Skyrunning UK as a "Sky Extra" in 2018. The organiser is Lake District Sky Trails.

The event is not a vetted race. Optional extras available via the entry system include a quality cotton tee, goat-bells for support teams, and post-race massage. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
