District 1-A Helen Keller Run
The District 1-A Helen Keller Run is an annual athletic event held in Oak Lawn, Illinois. Organized by the Lions of District 1-A, the event serves as a fundraiser for the District Open Area's account and the Lions of Illinois Foundation. These organizations support various programs for the blind, deaf, and handicapped, including summer camps for children with hearing or vision impairments.
Participants can choose from the following event distances:
- 5K Run
- 5K Walk
The race takes place at Harold L. Richards High School. Registered runners in the 5K Run receive an official race t-shirt as part of their entry. Participants in the 5K Walk can also receive an official race t-shirt if they reach a specific donation threshold.
Awards are presented for the 5K Run to the top three male and female finishers in several age categories. These categories include 14 and under, 15-20, 21-35, 36-50, 51-65, 66-75, and 76 and over. On-site registration and packet pick-up are available on the morning of the event. Parking is provided in the south parking lot located on 107th Street.
