About the race
HEF 5K is a community 5K event held in conjunction with Christmas in God’s Country in Hondo, Texas. The race starts and finishes at Courthouse Square, 1100 16th Street, Hondo, TX 78861. Participants may take part in person on November 21 or choose a virtual option that can be completed on another date within the event window. The course distance is 3.1 Miles.
Entry fees for the in-person and virtual 5K are listed at $25.00. There is also a sponsorship option with no registration fee; sponsorships act as donations to help cover event costs and allow the Hondo Education Foundation to raise more money for grants. Sponsors receive their logo or name on the back of the event shirt. The organizer notes an option to submit sponsorship forms or checks to avoid processing fees, and donations may be made on the foundation website for the cost of a sponsorship.
Proceeds support the Hondo Education Foundation’s grant program for Hondo ISD. In the 2025-2026 school year HEF awarded $39,600 in grants to teachers and $46,000 to assist with Chromebook replacements. For 2026-2027 HEF projected awarding $26,000 in grants and indicated plans to address additional special requests from HISD. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
