Hebrides Tip to Toe
This is a five day, four night multisport crossing of the Outer Hebrides in Scotland that travels from the Butt of Lewis in the north to Vatersay in the south. The route combines road cycling, short running sections and sea kayak crossings, with vehicle and ferry transfers from the Scottish mainland at Tyndrum included.
The event package is fully supported and inclusive. Accommodation and meals for four nights are provided in hotels, a bunkhouse and hostels. Professional support vehicles, route safety staff, medics and a bike mechanic are available throughout. Kayaks and associated equipment are supplied for the sea sections. Safety provision is audited to the BS8848 expedition safety standard.
Participants follow supplied GPS route files and will find marshalled junctions at key turns. Sea crossings are subject to weather and safety assessment; the ferry is used as a planned contingency if kayaking is not possible. The itinerary stages include extended road cycling on quiet tarmac roads, brief trail running sections and guided paddling between islands. Mandatory kit is required for registration and support vehicles and sweepers assist with participants who need to leave the route. Entrants must be over 18.
