Heaven Can Wait 5K is a community 5K run and walk held at Redmond High School football stadium on Sunday, Oct. 4, 2026. The event marks the 27th edition of the race, which was first held in 2000. Same-day registration and packet pickup are available. The course is organized as a 5K distance.
Purpose and fundraising
The event benefits Sara's Project, a St. Charles Foundation initiative that funds breast cancer education, early detection resources and patient support services for people in Central and Eastern Oregon. Since 2000 the event has raised more than $2 million for these programs. The 2026 event includes a campaign to raise an additional $25,000 for patient support programs that provide free wigs, post-surgical bras and education about early detection. Registration and T-shirt fees cover event costs, and donations are directed to Sara's Project; donations are tax-deductible. The event also features a "25K Challenge" fundraising option in which participants can create individual or team fundraising pages and set goals to support patient services. Participation supports community education, fundraising for patient needs and offers an opportunity for local residents to walk or run together.
