Hearts of Gold Classic 5K Run/Walk Project Compassion
This holiday running and walking event takes place on December 5, 2026 at Ben Geren Regional Park in Fort Smith. The course starts and finishes at the Ben Geren Community Safe Shelter. Early packet pickup is available at True Grit Running Company on Friday, December 4, from 10a-6p.
Distances offered:
- 5K race, timed by Jaymax Race Timing.
- 1 Mile walk.
The event benefits Project Compassion's Hearts of Gold Christmas gifts program for nursing home residents who lack friends and family. Participants are invited to bring new, non skid socks to donate to nursing home residents. Medals will be awarded to the top three finishers in each category of the 5K, and finisher medals will be provided. T shirts and goodie bags are available, with registration by November 15 guaranteeing t shirt size.
Registration opens September 18 and closes December 5. The listed registration fee for the 5K is $25 and for the 1 Mile walk is $15.
The event also honors the memory of a longtime advocate for the elderly and for pets who supported Project Compassion. The organizer asks attendees to remember residents in long term care during the holidays. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
