Heart and Sole Race - June 20, 2026
The Heart and Sole Race is the 47th annual running event held on June 20, 2026 as part of the Montana Active Life Festival. The event includes multiple distances and community activities alongside a car and bike show in the Dehler Park parking lot. Proceeds support the YMCA Annual Campaign and improvements to the Billings trail system through Billings TrailNet.
Three race options are offered:
- 10K RRCA state championship entry
- 5K
- 2-Mile Health Walk
The 10K serves as the RRCA 10K State Championship; all 10K entrants are automatically entered in the championship. Registrants who register before the May 31 deadline will receive a t-shirt; registrations after May 31 are not guaranteed a t-shirt. Children in strollers do not need to be registered but must remain in the stroller for the entire race.
Logistics note: the 10K starts at St. Francis Catholic School, 2202 Colton Blvd, with parking available at the school. A YMCA shuttle will be available at the Dehler Park finish area to return runners to the start; the shuttle will be parked at the main entrance of Dehler across from Perkins. Parking for the 5K and 2-Mile events will be limited at Intermountain Health Saint Vincent Regional Hospital; MSU-Billings will allow parking on its campus. Poly Drive access to some lots will be closed at race time; the MSU-Billings parking garage and Cisel lot will be unavailable.
Packet pickup locations are provided for local and out-of-town participants: Scheels Training Room at 1121 Shiloh Crossing Blvd for Billings residents (June 19) and the Mansfield Center at St. Vincent Healthcare, 2900 12th Ave N, garden level of the Yellowstone Medical Building, for out-of-town residents (June 20). The Montana Active Life Festival car and bike show is sponsored by Blue Body and Paint and is open to the public. After the race, kids 12 and under can run the bases; this activity is sponsored by AMP Athletic Medicine and Performance. The Billings Running Crown Challenge is a separate free challenge that awards a medal for completing four specified local races. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
