Event Overview
The Lakeland Trails in Hawkshead is a trail running event held on April 11, 2026. It takes place in Hawkshead, with the start and finish at the Hawkshead Recreation Ground. The event offers two main distances: a 10k and a 16k.
Race Details
The 10k event is called the Hawkshead Trail Run. It is open to participants aged 16 and over. The course is described as well-marked and marshalled, with graded runnable climbs and descents. There is a time limit of 2 hours. For this race, prizes are only available for runners in the 11:00 start.
The 16k distance has two separate starts with different focuses:
- The Hawkshead Trail Challenge starts at 13:00. It is aimed at less competitive runners and Nordic walkers. The time limit is 3.5 hours, and the minimum age is 18.
- The Hawkshead Trail Race starts at 14:00. It is intended for competitive runners on a fast course. The time limit is 2 hours, and the minimum age is 18.
All courses are fully marked and marshalled, using footpaths and bridleways. They are known for including a challenging mile-long climb on the ancient "Coffin Trail". The terrain is a mix of trails with some tarmac and rocky, steep descents.
