Hawkshead
Hawkshead is a Lakeland Trails trail running event that starts and finishes at Hawkshead Recreation Ground at the southern end of Hawkshead village.
Distances
- 10 km Trail Run
- 16 km Trail Race and 16 km Trail Challenge
All routes follow fully marked and marshalled footpaths and bridleways and take in panoramic views of Windermere and the surrounding Lake District fells, including the Coniston Hills and the Langdales, through rolling Beatrix Potter countryside. The courses include a near vertical, mile long climb known locally as the Coffin Trail. Underfoot conditions are generally good, with mainly scenic trails and short sections of tarmac, but some descents are steep and rocky.
There are two water stations on the 16 km course and one on the 10 km course; competitors are asked to carry their own water or bring a reusable cup as cups will not be supplied at stations. Dogs are not permitted in the event venue or on the course. Gates on the route may be closed so runners should close them behind them to contain livestock. Marshals will not control traffic at a road crossing near the finish, so runners must take care there.
Race numbers are issued from the event marquee on the day. Event parking is in signposted fields about a 7 to 8 minute walk (approximately 500 metres) from the Recreation Ground; fields may be muddy and cars with four or more passengers park free.
