About the race
Lakeland Trails in Hawkshead is a trail running event held at Hawkshead Recreation Ground in Cumbria on 10 April 2027. Routes follow fully marked and marshalled footpaths and bridleways with extensive views of Windermere and surrounding fells.
Available distances:
- 10 km Trail Run
- 16 km Trail Race
- 16 km Trail Challenge
The courses include a near‑vertical, mile‑long climb known as the Coffin Trail, mixed scenic trails, short tarmac sections and some steep, rocky descents. Underfoot conditions are generally good for off‑road running but parts of the route can be tricky; participants are advised to slow down or walk where necessary. The 10 km has a two hour time limit; the 16 km Race has a two hour limit and the 16 km Challenge a three and a half hour limit. Age limits apply: 10 km entrants must be 16 or older, 16 km events require entrants to be 18 or older.
There are two water stations on the 16 km course (around 7 km and 11 km) and one on the 10 km course (around 7 km). Competitors should bring their own water and a reusable cup. Dogs are not permitted in the event venue or on the course. Event facilities at the recreation ground include registration, baggage storage, traders, food stalls and portable toilets. The ordering window for event t-shirts has closed; already ordered shirts will be available for collection on the day. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
