Ian Charlesworth Hartcliff Hill
The Ian Charlesworth Hartcliff Hill is a BS-category fell race organised by Penistone Footpath Runners & AC. The course is 4.6 miles / 7.4 km with 709 ft / 216 m of ascent. It is a marked and marshalled route, so no navigation or prior fell-running experience is required, although competitors are asked to familiarise themselves with the route. The terrain is a mixture of fields and rough tracks with three short sections of asphalt road. The race starts and finishes on the playing fields in Penistone next to the Bowling Club; it previously started near Langsett reservoir but the start moved because of parking permissions.
Entry, route and administration
Pre-entry will be available closer to the event for £6. Minimum age to enter is 17 on 31 December 2026 under FRA rules. Registration is at Penistone Bowling Club (grid ref SE244032). The race holds a permit and associated UK Athletics insurance from the Fell Runners Association; under-18s not accompanied by a parent or guardian should bring a completed FRA parental consent form. A new route was introduced for 2025. The race was cancelled in 2014 (Foot and Mouth), in 2020 and 2021 (Covid-19), and in 2022 (lack of parking).
