About the race
King of the Hill is a last-person-standing hill repeat event held in Pyalong, VIC. Competitors run a 4.2 km circuit with about 300 m of elevation gain that includes two major climbs and one very steep descent over predominantly grassy, uneven terrain with clusters of small rocks. Runners must complete the circuit once each hour; failure to complete a lap or to beat the hour results in elimination. Participants receive a designated 3 m × 3 m rest area near the start line; up to three people may occupy a runner's rest area at one time.
On-site facilities and services listed for athletes include physio and ice-bath recovery, trained medical staff, live results tracking and a livestreamed leaderboard, professional photography, and event vendors such as food trucks and a coffee cart. The event offers a range of cash and category prizes, including a grand prize of $20,000 AUD plus awards for last male and last female standing and fastest lap categories. Race entry includes a bib, GPS tracking, personalised photos and finisher medals with optional custom engraving by total laps. Participants must be 18 years or older; organisers provide a mandatory gear list after registration and recommend carrying essentials such as running shoes, a race bib, headtorch or flashlight for nighttime sections, an emergency whistle and a mobile phone.
