Hare Mountain 100
The Hare Mountain 100 is a point to point 100 mile endurance run on the Ozark Highlands Trail in northwestern Arkansas, using 100 miles of the Boston Mountain segment. The course passes through rocky, steep hardwood, cedar and pine forests and includes creek crossings, waterfalls, bluffs, sandstone outcrops and fall foliage. Hare Mountain is the highest point on the trail at about 2400 feet.
The course layout includes two scenic spur loops and uses trail blazes and wooden signs for navigation. Elevation gain measured by GPS and topographic mapping ranges from about 20,000 to 24,400 feet depending on device and app. Runners have a 38 hour time limit to complete the 100 mile distance; runners who leave the last aid station by the cutoff may still receive an official finish if they arrive after 38 hours.
The event requires a satellite GPS tracking device and that the course GPX be downloaded on a phone for the 100 mile run. Aid stations are spaced with some long stretches between them, with a maximum gap of about 12 miles on a couple of sections. The race is cupless; reusable cups are issued at the start to runners who do not bring one.
