About the race
Coombe Abbey Park in Coventry (CV3 2AB) hosts the Hare Challenge on a new winter route. The event uses a six hour format in which participants complete repeated laps of a measured circuit. Each lap is 3.3 miles, so entrants choose how many laps to complete within the time limit. The course is mostly on stone pathways.
A meadow section is usually closed from October to April, so this event uses a slightly amended winter route. The new section can become muddy in wet weather. A GPX of the route is available but the route may be subject to last minute changes and will be waymarked on the day. Practical details include parking that costs up to £5, and a cafe and toilet block near the event headquarters.
The park is on the outskirts of Coventry and is about six minutes from Junction 2 of the M6. The closest train station is Coventry. Dogs and canicross are not permitted because sheep may be present in the fields. Entry fees follow a tiered structure: before 09/02/2027 the fee is £38; after that date it is £43.
Unaffiliated entrants pay an additional £2. Charity donations to Roald Dahl’s Marvellous Children’s Charity can be added during entry and the donation goes in full to the charity. Rucking is allowed and there is an option to receive either a medal or a tree token which funds a tree planting and contains wildflower seeds.
