Escape from Meriden

Escape from Meriden is an overnight foot event that starts from the ancient cross at Meriden. Participants are measured by straight line distance, described in the event as "as the crow flies." Tracking technology from TrackTrail is provided to monitor each participant's movement.

There are three entry categories. Solo and Pairs entrants have a 24 hours period to travel on foot. The Chained class is a separate 36 hours event for teams of two to six runners, operated by Cockbain Events and run from the same venue. Chained teams that cover 130 real miles receive a special Chained medal; EFM medals are not included in Chained entry fees.

Awards are based on distance reached as measured by the crow. Reaching 30 miles awards silver, 60 miles awards gold, and 90 miles awards the Black Crow designation. The event provides no checkpoints and gives no route advice; participants choose their own routes and are responsible for navigation and safety. Organisers state that private land and illegal routes such as motorways must not be used, and recommend avoiding roads without pavements.

Entry costs listed are: Solo and Pairs £38 per person, Chained £68 per person. Hire of the TrackTrail GPS tracker is included. Optional items and fees include an EFM medal, prison jumpsuit, and event tee. The event has a no refund policy unless cancelled; places may be transferred to another person in the same category up to 30 days before the event following the organiser's transfer procedure.
