Escape from Meriden
Escape from Meriden is an on-foot endurance event that starts from the ancient cross at Meriden. Participants aim to travel as far as possible within a fixed time window, and distance is measured "as the crow flies." The event uses TrackTrail GPS trackers to record each participant's progress.
There are three participation categories: solo entries for 24 hours, pairs for 24 hours, and a "Chained Ultra" team category for 36 hours that operates for teams of two to six runners. Chained teams that reach 130 real miles receive a special Chained medal. Standard graded medals are available for solo and pair participants based on distance thresholds: silver at 30 miles, gold at 60 miles, and a Black Crow award at 90 miles.
Participants travel only on foot and choose their own routes. The organiser gives no navigation advice and provides no checkpoints or support during the attempt. The rules prohibit use of private land and illegal roads; participants are advised to avoid roads without pavements. TrackTrail GPS hire is included in entry fees. Optional extras listed include an event medal, a themed jumpsuit, and a commemorative tee.
Refunds or deferrals are not issued unless the event is cancelled. Places may be transferred to another participant in the same category up to 30 days before the event. The 2026 events were reported as sold out. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
