Three circular trail races start and finish at Chop Gate Village Hall: 28.5 miles, 16.5 miles and 9.5 miles across the Wainstones. Self navigation, mandatory kit and cutoff times make this a bold moorland challenge for seasoned trail runners.

Event overview

The Hardmoors 26.2: Wainstones races take place on Sunday 14 June 2026 from Chop Gate Village Hall, Raisdale Road, Chop Gate (TS9 7JN; what3words: deflated.dressy.human). The event offers three circular courses starting and finishing at the village hall:

28.5 miles (Trail Marathon)
16.5 miles (Half Marathon)
9.5 miles (Trail 10k)

Entry opens for general entries on 17 August 2025 and closes on 22 May 2026. The entry limit is listed as 350. Age minimums are: Marathon 18+, Half Marathon 16+, 10k 10+. Entry includes parking or a coach if the field is flooded.

Course, kit and race rules

Courses are not fully taped or signed. Competitors must download and carry printed route descriptions and maps; GPX files are provided. Mandatory kit differs by distance. Marathon and Half Marathon mandatory items include a waterproof jacket with taped seams, hat and gloves, a means to carry 500 ml fluid, printed route map and description, emergency survival bag, foil blanket, whistle, and a way to attach the race number. The 10k mandatory list includes capacity to carry 500 ml fluid, printed map and description, emergency survival bag, foil blanket, whistle, and a number attachment. Anyone not carrying mandatory kit may be disqualified. Time limits are 10 hours for the marathon, 6 hours for the half, and 4 hours for the 10k. The event is cupless and dogs are not allowed.
