Event Overview

The Hardmoors 26.2: Wainstones is a trail running event offering three distances. It takes place on a Sunday in June, with the start and finish venue at Chop Gate Village Hall on Raisdale Road, Chop Gate.

Distances and Course

The event features multiple trail races:

  • Trail Marathon - 28 miles with 5600 ft of ascent and a 10-hour time limit.
  • Half Marathon - 16.5 miles with 3630 ft of ascent and a 6-hour time limit.
  • Trail 10k - 9.5 miles with 1600 ft of ascent and a 4-hour time limit.

The course is not taped or signed; participants must navigate using printed route descriptions and maps, which are provided as downloadable files.

Registration and Logistics

Registration opens in August. There is an entry fee, which includes car parking. The event is held under an ARC permit. The field is limited to 350 total participants across all distances. There are no deferrals, but if the race is full, participants may sell their place to another runner up to three weeks before the event. Changing between distances is possible by request.

Required Equipment

The event enforces a mandatory kit list. For the marathon and half marathon, this includes a waterproof jacket with taped seams, hat and gloves, capacity to carry 500ml of fluid, a printed route description and map, an emergency survival bag, a foil blanket, a whistle, and a spare long-sleeved base layer. The 10k requires a capacity to carry 500ml of fluid, a printed route description and map, an emergency survival bag, a foil blanket, and a whistle. Failure to carry this kit can result in disqualification.

Awards and Categories

Prizes are awarded for the first three male and female finishers overall, and for first place in various age categories (V50, V60, V70). There is also a category for non-binary participants if enough entries are received. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
