Hamster Endurance Runs
Hamster Endurance Runs is a set of timed trail events held around Lake Padden. The event includes multiple durations and uses a well marked 2.6 mile loop that circumnavigates the lake. The trail is wooded and natural; the surface is compact dirt and crushed gravel, nontechnical, with minimal elevation change and about 150+ feet of elevation gain per loop. Glow lights will be used during night hours and runners are required to bring headlamps.
Distances contested:
- 6 hour
- 12 hour
- 24 hour
- 32 hour
Support on course includes a staffed aid area with individually packed snacks, chips, gels, water and electrolyte drinks. Hot food and beverage options are provided overnight and the morning after for the longest events. There is a large drop bag area and designated picnic tables under a shelter. Gluten free and vegan options are available and runners are advised to bring personal fuel if they have dietary restrictions.
The event is limited to 130 runners total and uses a waitlist for full races. Awards and keepsakes are part of the event: all entrants receive a custom wood keepsake, belt buckles are awarded to those who complete 100 miles, and top three women, men and non-binary finishers receive awards. Proceeds benefit the Whatcom Family YMCA Girls on The Run Program. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
