Event Overview
The Hampton Bays Fire Department Turkey Trot is an annual community sports event held in Hampton Bays, New York. The event features two main distances to accommodate different preferences:
- 5 km Run
- 1 mile Walk
The course is described as a flat and fast out and back route that takes participants down Ponquogue Avenue. The event proceeds rain or shine, starting and finishing near the local fire department facilities.
Location and Logistics
The event is centered at the Hampton Bays Fire Department at 69 W. Montauk Highway. For participants arriving by vehicle, designated parking is available at the King Kullen shopping center and the United Artists movie theatre.
Bib pickup is organized into two sessions. An early pickup is held the evening before the event at the fire department substation on Ponquogue Avenue, while race-day pickup is available on-site during the morning. Participants who register at least three weeks in advance receive a personalized race number.
Awards and Amenities
The event offers several categories for recognition in the 5 km run. Top male and female finishers are recognized in the overall category, as well as in a specialized category for first responders and military personnel, including fire department, police, and EMS members. Medals are also awarded to the top three male and female finishers in various age groups, ranging from 12 and under to 80 and over. A separate award is presented to the largest participating team.
