Hamilton Half Marathon
The event takes place at Hamilton Gardens and features riverside running along the banks of the Waikato River. The course passes through parks, landmarks and historic neighbourhoods and uses part of the Te Awa River Ride trail.
The gardens are a 54-hectare public park on the south side of Hamilton. Facilities and landscapes within the gardens include enclosed themed gardens, open lawns, a lake, a nursery and a convention centre.
Distances offered:
- 21KM half marathon
- 10KM
- 5KM
Options are available for both runners and walkers. The finish area includes a selection of local food trucks offering coffee and carbohydrate options, and space for spectators to bring picnic rugs, chairs and bean bags. Awards are presented in the finish area in front of the stage. Every registered competitor who finishes the event and attends the official awards is entered into a spot prize draw for an economy Air New Zealand ticket to Rarotonga with accommodation at the Edgewater Resort, subject to availability; the winner must be present to be eligible.
The route uses sections of the Te Awa River Ride. The Te Awa River Ride Charitable Trust manages the trail and seeks donations to maintain the trail that extends 65 km. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
