Hades Hill Fell Race
Hades Hill is usually the final evening fell race of the season organised by Rochdale Harriers and A.C. The course begins with a steep uphill section, then levels out before a rollercoaster route over Brown Wardle, Middle Hill and Hades Hill, returning to a field finish above the start line.
The event is scheduled for 3rd September 2026 with Race HQ at the Red Lion PH, The Square, Whitworth OL12 8PY. Distance is 8 km (5 miles) with 360 m / 1181 ft of ascent and Category BS. Minimum age is 18. Pre-entry is available and there are set fees: pre-entry £6.00 for FRA members and £8.00 for non-members; on-the-day entry £7.00 for FRA members and £9.00 for non-members.
A cut-off applies for safety and daylight. Entrants who do not reach the top of Brown Wardle (grid ref SD 89842 18684), 1.3 miles and 550 ft of climb from the start, within 24 minutes of the race start will be retired from the race. This equates to an uphill running pace of about 12 min/km or 18.5 min/mile.
Mandatory FRA kit is required for entrants, normally including a waterproof whole-body cover with taped seams and attached hood, hat, gloves, map of the route, compass, whistle and emergency food.
