Event overview
The Great Ultra Mediocre Back Yarder weekend is organised by ULTRA Mediocre Runners of Canberra and takes place at Blue Range Hut, Blue Range Road, Coree ACT on 24–26 April 2026. The venue has no power or running water; composting toilets and additional port-a-loos will be provided. Shops are about 45 minutes away. An aid station at the start/finish supplies water and Tailwind. Camping is available; fee is $12 per person per night.
Race formats and distances
- GumbyMOON: 26.8 km (4 laps) on a twilight loop; the final lap is a race and the first across on lap 4 wins.
- GUMBY: 6.7 km loop repeated hourly until one runner remains; runners who do not complete a loop within the hour are recorded as DNF. The loop is described as an undulating fire trail starting and finishing at the corral.
- GumBABY: 53.6 km (8 laps); the final lap is a race and the first across on lap 8 wins.
- GumbyGUMBO: a multi-day combination of the three events totaling 24 loops and described as 100 miles.
The course passes named features such as Facebook Hill, Mt. GUMBY, Pokey Crack and Poo Bear Corner. Rules include running each loop every hour, no pacing by non-competitors or DNF athletes, and no enclosed headphones; bone-conduction headsets are permitted.

Field limits: GUMBY 50, GumBABY 70, GumbyMOON 30. Entry fees vary by event and booking period; examples include GUMBY early bird $210 and standard $245, GumBABY early bird $150 and standard $180, GumbyMOON early bird $80 and standard $110.
