Event Overview
The event is called the Gulf Coast Veterans Association 5k Run/Walk + 1 Mile Fun Run. It is the third annual edition of this race. The event takes place in Long Beach, Mississippi, at the Long Beach Town Green.
Event Distances
Participants can choose between three events:
- 5K Run
- Heavy Load 5K - In this category, women carry a minimum of 12 lbs and men carry a minimum of 20 lbs using a tactical vest, plates, or a rucksack.
- 1 Mile Fun Run
Event Features
The race is described as scenic, beginning and ending at the town green. A post-race celebration with food is held in the park. Participants in the timed runs receive finisher shirts. Awards are given for overall male and female winners, age group winners, and top male and female finishers in the Heavy Load category.
Purpose
The event is organized to honor local veterans. Ninety-five percent of proceeds and donations from the event directly benefit veterans across the Mississippi Gulf Coast. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
