Event overview
Groundhog Run 2026 takes place on Sunday, February 1, 2026 in Kansas City, MO. This is the 44th annual Groundhog Run and it benefits children with disabilities served by Ability KC. The event offers these race options:
- 5K
- 10K
- 5K & 10K Tunnel-To-Tunnel
- Kids Run (ages 0-8, distances 50 to 200 yards)
- 5K Virtual
- 10K Virtual
- 5K & 10K Tunnel-To-Tunnel Virtual
Entry fees, registration windows, and limited virtual spots are set for each event.
Course and logistics
The course is 100% underground at Hunt Midwest SubTropolis. The 5K and 10K are USATF certified. The underground venue maintains a consistent temperature of about 65 to 68 degrees and has paved streets. General parking is at Ameristar Casino with shuttle service to the SubTropolis; VIP and ADA parking arrangements are provided. Race day packet pickup is available at the Hunt Midwest SubTropolis, with prior pick-up offered on Friday and Saturday.
Rules and policies
Participants for the 5K and 10K must be at least 8 years old on race day. The event policy states no refunds or runner substitutions and registrations cannot be deferred or transferred; photographs and video may be used in promotional materials. Race officials have authority to remove participants for rule violations. A code of conduct prohibits harassment and may result in sanctions or expulsion without refund.
