Groundhog Run 2027

The Groundhog Run takes place in Kansas City on February 7, 2027 for its 45th annual edition. The event benefits children with disabilities who receive services at Ability KC.

Races are held inside Hunt Midwest’s SubTropolis, an underground complex with paved streets and a reported consistent temperature of 65 to 68 degrees. The 5K and 10K courses are USATF certified.

Event distances and formats include:

5K (3.1 miles)
10K (6.2 miles)
Tunnel-to-Tunnel double (5K plus 10K, 9.3 miles total)
Kids Run (50 to 200 yards by age group)
Virtual 5K, virtual 10K, and a virtual Tunnel-to-Tunnel option

Registration for the main in-person races opens on June 1, 2026; fees vary by event. Kids’ bibs are available at packet pick-up on Friday and Saturday as well as on event morning. The Kids Run is untimed and groups children by age, and parents or guardians may run with their children.
