Event overview
Groundhog Run 2026 takes place on Sunday, February 1, 2026, in Kansas City, MO. It is the 44th annual edition and benefits children with disabilities served by Ability KC. The event features multiple race options held on a USATF certified course located entirely underground in Hunt Midwest’s SubTropolis. The underground venue has paved streets and maintains a consistent temperature of about 65 to 68 degrees Fahrenheit.

All participants in the 5K and 10K must be at least 8 years old on race day. The Kids Run is untimed; children receive a medal at the finish and may be grouped by age. Parents and guardians may run with their children.
Logistics and rules
Parking is available at Ameristar Casino with shuttle service to the SubTropolis. Packet pickup is offered prior to race day and on race morning. Gear Check is available; bags must be checked or carried in a 12" x 12" clear plastic, vinyl, or PVC bag. Registrations are nontransferable and nonrefundable. Race officials may remove participants for violations such as possession of controlled substances, or use of rollerblades; dogs are not allowed on the course.
