Groundhog Day Marathon
The Groundhog Day Marathon is a winter running event held February 5-6, 2027 in Walker, outside Grand Rapids, Michigan. The event is organized around a looped, certified course and typically takes place in snowy conditions.
Distances offered:
- Marathon: 26.2 Miles
- Half Marathon: 13.1 Miles
- 1/6 Marathon WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP: 4.37 Miles
- Whole Hog (1/6 plus Full): 30.57 Miles
- Half Hog (1/6 plus Half): 17.47 Miles
The certified course consists of twelve loops of approximately 2.18 miles each and is paved. Aid stations are located at 1 mile and in the finish area. The certified nature of the course allows use for Boston qualification.
Event capacity notes and registration windows are provided by the organizer. The 1/6 Marathon has a 300 runner limit and the full and half marathons have a combined 500 runner limit. Registration opens April 8, 2026 and closes June 29, 2026. Published entry fees vary by event.
Every participant receives a hoodie and a finisher medal. Participants registered for the Whole Hog and Half Hog also receive a stocking cap. RunGR provides an official training program with a prorated 20 week FAST membership option. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
