Event overview
The Children's Grief Center of the Great Lakes Bay Region presents the 2026 Grit Your Grief 5K Run Walk on May 16, 2026 in Freeland, Michigan. The event takes place at MBS International Airport, 8500 Garfield Rd, Freeland, MI 48623. It includes a live on-site race on airport property and a virtual option during the designated virtual race weeks.
Race format and course
The live main event is a 5K run/walk. The live 5K course on May 16 will use MBS taxiways and a portion of a main runway. A separate family Color Run will be held on MBS property but not on a runway due to FAA regulations. Virtual participants may complete a 5K on a route of their choice during the virtual race weeks (May 6-20).
Registration, fees and items
Registration opens January 16, 2026. Stated entry fees are $35 for the 5K and virtual 5K, $20 for the Color Run, and $10 for a spectator pass. Early registration at $35 is noted as an early-bird option. Registration by April 21 guarantees a T-shirt; later registrants may receive a T-shirt and medal only if available.
Logistics and additional information
Live race packets are available the day of the race. Virtual race packets are available on race day or the following week at the Children’s Grief Center in Midland; shipping is available for an additional cost. Memorial signs to honor loved ones can be purchased and will be displayed on MBS property. All proceeds benefit children and families served in the Great Lakes Bay Region.
