Event overview
The Grit Your Grief 5K Run Walk is organized by the Children's Grief Center of the Great Lakes Bay Region and takes place on May 16, 2026 in Freeland, Michigan at MBS International Airport (8500 Garfield Rd). The live 5K uses airport taxiways and a portion of a main runway. The event also includes a family Color Fun Run held on MBS property (not on a runway due to FAA regulations) and a virtual 5K race period from May 6 to May 20 when participants choose their own routes. Memorial signs may be purchased and will be displayed on MBS property. Proceeds benefit children and families served in the Great Lakes Bay Region.

- 5K Run/Walk - timed; live course includes taxiways and part of a main runway.
- VIRTUAL 5K Run/Walk - participants choose their own routes during virtual race weeks.
- Color Fun Run - held on MBS property; registration required.
- Spectator Pass - access for non-runners.
Registration opens January 1, 2026. Early registration pricing and deadlines apply; registration must be completed by April 21 to guarantee a participant T-shirt. Live race packets are available the day of the event. Virtual race packets are available on race day or the following week at the Children’s Grief Center, 4708 James Savage Rd, Midland, MI 48642, or can be shipped for an additional cost.
