Event Details
The Grit Your Grief 5K Run Walk is an event supporting the Children's Grief Center of the Great Lakes Bay Region. It takes place on May 16, 2026, at MBS International Airport in Freeland, Michigan.
Event Format
The event offers a 5K Run/Walk, a VIRTUAL 5K Run/Walk, a Color Fun Run, and a Spectator Pass. The live 5K is scheduled to start at 10:00 a.m. Its course will include airport taxiways and a portion of a main runway. All participants in the live 5K will be timed.
A virtual option is available during "Virtual Race Weeks" from May 6–20, where participants choose their own routes. The Color Fun Run for all ages is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. on May 16th and will be held on airport property, but not on a runway, due to FAA regulations.
Registration and Logistics
Early bird registration for the 5K costs $35 until a specified deadline. After May 8, 2026, the price increases. A $20 registration fee applies for the Color Fun Run. Participants must register by April 24th to guarantee a t-shirt. A t-shirt and medal for the 5K are available only if stock remains for registrations made between May 9th and May 16th.
Packet pick-up for the live event will be available on race day. Virtual race packets can be picked up on race day or the following week at the Children's Grief Center in Midland, with shipping available for an extra cost.
Additional Features
The event includes a Kid Zone with activities like craft stations, tie-dye, interactive booths, mascot visits, and bounce houses. Access is included with a 5K, Color Run, or Spectator Pass purchase. Memorial signs to honor loved ones can be purchased and will be displayed on airport property during the event.
