GristMill Grind - September 5, 2026
GristMill Grind is a technical trail event held at Franklin Creek State Natural Area in Franklin Grove, IL. The event offers both 10 km and 5 km distances and permits running, walking, or rucking on natural-surface trails.
Course features include ravines, limestone bluffs, springs, forested canopy, sections of gravel road, and multiple creek crossings. The 10K crosses Franklin Creek five times; the 5K crosses it twice. The route has significant rolling terrain with an average elevation gain of about 100 ft per mile. Participants should expect to get their feet wet at creek crossings.
Practical details: check-in takes place at the Hausen Knox Shelter. Drinking water is available at the start/finish and at a midcourse shelter on the 10K; participants should bring a personal disposable cup or hydration bladder because cups will not be provided.
Registration windows and fees are published: initial signup period, later pricing, and a race-day entry option are listed, and registration closes on September 4, 2026. T-shirts are offered for purchase and are guaranteed for registrations completed by August 15, 2026.
Custom awards are presented to the top three male and female finishers in each distance and to top ruckers. All proceeds support the Franklin Creek Conservation Association for park programs, expansion, and improvements. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
