GristMill Grind
The GristMill Grind is a technical trail race held at Franklin Creek State Natural Area in Franklin Grove, IL. The event offers two distances and routes that traverse ravines, limestone bluffs, forested canopy, creek crossings, and short stretches of gravel road.
- 10K: technical trail with creek crossings (5) and varied elevation
- 5K: technical trail with creek crossings (2) and hill sections
Trails include repeated elevation changes with an approximate gain of 100 ft per mile. Franklin Creek is crossed multiple times on course; participants should expect wet footing at those crossings. Drinking water is provided at the start and finish area and at the mid-race shelter for the 10K. Participants are asked to bring a disposable cup or a hydration bladder because cups will not be provided.
Registration windows and fees are listed for advance and later entry: initial pricing, a later price increase, and a race-day fee are specified by the organizer. T-shirts are available for purchase and are guaranteed for registrations completed before August 15, 2026. All proceeds support the Franklin Creek Conservation Association for park programs, expansion, and improvements. Awards are custom and presented to the top three male and top three female finishers for each distance and to top ruckers. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
