GristMill Grind : Franklin Creek State Natural Area

The GristMill Grind is the sixth annual trail event held at Franklin Creek State Natural Area near Franklin Grove, IL. It offers timed trail courses over natural terrain with limestone bluffs, springs, forest canopy, ravines, and some gravel road.

Course details note technical singletrack and repeated ascents and descents with an average elevation gain of about 100 ft per mile. The routes include multiple creek crossings: the 10K crosses Franklin Creek five times and the 5K crosses it twice. The course surface includes trail, bluff sections, and short gravel stretches.

Participants may run, walk, or ruck. Drinking water is provided at the start/finish area and at the midrace shelter on the 10K; participants should bring a disposable cup or a hydration bladder since cups will not be supplied. Check in takes place at the Hausen Knox Shelter.

Entry fees and registration windows are published by the organizer; registration closes on September 4, 2026. T-shirts are available for purchase and are guaranteed for registrations completed before August 15, 2026. Event proceeds support the Franklin Creek Conservation Association for park programs, expansion, and improvements.
