GristMill Grind - Franklin Creek State Natural Area
The event is the sixth annual GristMill Grind trail race held at Franklin Creek State Natural Area in Franklin Grove, IL. It is organized as a technical trail event where participants may run, walk, or ruck on natural surface trails.
The course crosses varied terrain including ravines, limestone bluffs, springs, forest canopy, and short sections of gravel road. The organizer notes an elevation gain of about 100 ft per mile. Creek crossings occur on both courses: the 10K crosses Franklin Creek five times and the 5K crosses twice.
Distances:
- 10K, five creek crossings
- 5K, two creek crossings
Drinking water is available at the Start/Finish and at the Sunday shelter, which serves as a mid-race point for the 10K. Participants must bring a personal disposable cup or hydration bladder because no cups will be provided. Check-in is at the Hausen Knox Shelter on race day.
All proceeds benefit the Franklin Creek Conservation Association to support park programs, expansion, and improvements. Custom awards will be presented to the top three male and top three female finishers in each distance and to top ruckers. Event registration windows and fees are listed by the organizer; t-shirts are available for purchase and are guaranteed if registration occurs before 8/15/2026.
