GristMill Grind : Franklin Creek State Natural Area
The GristMill Grind is a trail running event at Franklin Creek State Natural Area in Franklin Grove, IL on Saturday, September 5, 2026. It offers two distances and includes a rucking option.
The course is technical, with trails that run up and down multiple hills and an average elevation gain of about 100 ft per mile. The route passes ravines, limestone bluffs, springs, and forest canopy, and includes gravel road sections. Runners cross Franklin Creek multiple times: 5 crossings on the 10K and 2 crossings on the 5K.
Water is available at the start/finish and at the mid-race shelter for the 10K; participants are asked to bring a disposable cup or hydration bladder as cups will not be provided. Check-in is at the Hausen Knox Shelter.
Registration pricing listed by the organizer is: initial period 9/1/2025–7/31/2026 ($25), after 7/31/2026 ($35), and race-day ($45). T-shirts are available for purchase ($20) and are guaranteed for registrations completed before 8/15/2026. Online registration closes on September 4, 2026.
All proceeds support the Franklin Creek Conservation Association, funding park programs, expansion, and improvements. Custom awards are presented to the top three male and female finishers in each distance and to top ruckers. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
