Frozen Devil's Head
The Frozen Devil's Head is an inaugural winter trail race held on January 9, 2027 near Sedalia, CO. The course is an out and back along Rampart Range Road from the gate at Highway 67 to Devil's Head and back, covering 21.6 miles.
The route climbs 2,627 feet, starting at about 7,640 feet and turning around near 9,662 feet just below the Devil's Head lookout. All climbing occurs on the outbound portion. Rampart Range Road is closed to vehicles from December 1 through spring, and surface conditions can include packed snow, shaded ice, refrozen ruts, dry dirt, or a mix depending on the week.
Aid is available at the start and finish, at mile 5.4, at the turnaround around mile 10.8, and again at mile 16.2 on the return. Hot fluids and shelter are provided at the start, finish, and turnaround. On-course aid is delivered by snowmobile or ATV.
There is a mandatory gear list that can be checked at packet pickup, at the start, and at the turnaround. Traction requirements will be decided the week of the race and communicated by email at least 48 hours beforehand. The event limits entries to 200 runners, charges a set entry fee, is cupless so participants must bring their own bottle or flask, and restricts crew and spectators past the gate.
