About the race
The Greenhorn Adventure Race is an entry-level adventure race held at Rocky Gap State Park in Flintstone, Maryland. This is the event's 11th edition. The course is a roughly 15 miles sprint with a four hour time limit, intended as a gateway into the sport of adventure racing.
The race includes multiple disciplines: trekking, paddling and mountain biking, with on-course navigation suited to beginners. Approximate discipline distances are trekking about 3 to 6 miles, paddling about 2 miles, and mountain biking about 8 to 10 miles. Organizers provide maps for navigation. Mountain biking sections use gravel roads, some pavement, and semi-technical singletrack trails. Paddling takes place on a clear lake in the park.
Teams may compete as soloists or in teams of two, three, or four; teams may be male, female, or coed. Team members are required to travel together for the duration of the race.
