Greenhorn Adventure Race Overview
The Greenhorn Adventure Race takes place at Rocky Gap State Park in Flintstone, Maryland. This event is designed as a sprint adventure race with a 4 hour time limit. It serves as an introductory event for the sport, featuring straightforward navigation and detailed maps provided by the organizers.
Participants can compete as soloists or in teams of two, three, or four members. Team categories include male, female, and co-ed divisions. All team members are required to travel together throughout the entire course.
The race covers a total distance of approximately 15 miles and incorporates several distinct disciplines:
- Trekking: Between 3 to 6 miles of foot travel.
- Mountain Biking: Between 8 to 10 miles on gravel roads, pavement, and semi-technical singletrack.
- Paddling: Approximately 2 miles on a clear lake.
- Navigation: Beginner-level map reading and waypoint finding.
