Great White North Half Marathon
The Great White North Half Marathon takes place in Stony Plain, Alberta, located just west of Edmonton. As part of the 33rd annual Great White North multi-sport festival, the event explores the local roads and trails. The course is flat and fast, consisting primarily of paved surfaces and trails with a small section of packed gravel.
The event offers three distinct running distances:
- 5 km: An out-and-back course.
- 10 km: A single loop.
- 21 km (Half Marathon): Two loops of the course.
The race site and expo are located at the Stony Plain Heritage Park Pavilion. Participants are supported by four stations along the course providing hydration, gels, and nutrition. The race utilizes RFID chip timing to provide real-time web results for all athletes.
The broader festival also features various multi-sport competitions, including triathlon (Half Iron, Olympic, Sprint, and Try-a-Tri), duathlon, and AquaBike categories. Registered runners receive a finisher shirt and have access to post-race food, including lunch and beverages. Professional medical support is present throughout the event, and awards are presented to the top three overall male and female finishers.
