About the race
The Great White North Half Marathon takes place in Stony Plain, located just west of Edmonton. This event is part of the 33rd annual Great White North multi-sport festival and utilizes the roads and trails throughout the town. The following running distances are available:
- 5 km (ages 10 and up)
- 10 km (ages 10 and up)
- 21 km (Half Marathon, ages 16 and up)
The course is characterized as flat and fast, featuring paved roads, community trails, and a brief section of packed gravel. The 5 km distance follows an out-and-back format, the 10 km is a single loop, and the 21 km half marathon consists of two loops. There are four well-stocked aid stations along the course providing water, electrolyte drinks, soda, and gels.
The race expo and event headquarters are located at the Stony Plain Heritage Park Pavilion. Registered participants receive a race bib with RFID chip timing for real-time results and a finisher t-shirt. Post-race amenities include lunch, cinnamon rolls, and other food options. Awards are presented to the top three overall male and female finishers.
The event runs concurrently with other multi-sport disciplines within the same festival, including triathlon, duathlon, and aquabike competitions. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
