AJ Bell Great Scottish Run
The AJ Bell Great Scottish Run is a city-centre running event in Glasgow offering a 10k and a half marathon. Both routes start on St Vincent Street and finish on Glasgow Green. The event attracts thousands of participants each year and includes charity entries.
- 10k
- Half marathon
The 10k route begins with a short uphill section, followed by about 2.5 km downhill and then mostly flat running. The half marathon has more uphill running, with roughly six miles of climbs in the middle and the final five miles either downhill or flat. Course maps and road closure information are published for the event.
Entries are open to runners aged 15+ for the 10k and 17+ for the half marathon on the day. A booking fee of £2.50 per entry and a Glasgow Council Environmental Levy of £2 + VAT (£2.40 per entry) are applied at checkout. Race numbers include the timing chip and are posted 1-2 weeks before the event; late or overseas entries must collect numbers from the information point.
On event day there are colour-coded baggage buses that close 15 minutes before waves start, then relocate to the finish for collection using the race number. The event offers medals, a finisher bag, optional finisher t-shirts, official event photos, and an event app for live tracking and results. Runners can access exclusive discounts via the Great Run Rewards platform. Runners who decline a finisher tee can trigger a donation to the National Trust Woodlands Appeal as part of the event’s environmental commitment, with an approximate pledged contribution of £20,000.
