Great River Road Road Race
The Great River Road Road Race (GRRRR) takes place at Pikes Peak State Park in McGregor, Iowa. This event features two main running distances:
- 5K Run
- 10K Run
Both the 5K and 10K courses are USATF certified and sanctioned. The 5K route holds certification number IA 24009MF, while the 10K route holds certification number IA 24008-M. These races use chip timing to record participant results.
The course follows a traditional route starting within the park. From the parking lot, participants follow Pikes Peak Road west to the Great River Road. The path then turns south, leading runners along the Great River Road to their respective turnaround marks for the 5K or 10K distances. Participants return to the park using the same route.
The terrain consists of slightly rolling hills. At the conclusion of the event, there is an awards presentation for participants. The event also provides a complimentary pancake breakfast for those who take part in the races. The race is held entirely on paved roads within and near Pikes Peak State Park, offering runners views of the surrounding area during the out-and-back course.
