Trail Runs at Motor Mill Historic Site

The Motor Motor Trail Runs take place in Northeast Iowa within the "Driftless Area." Established in 2016, this event utilizes the trail systems surrounding the Motor Mill Historic Site and the Turkey River valley. The race serves as a fundraiser for Clayton County Conservation to support regional projects such as nature center exhibits and trail development.

Participants can choose between two distinct distances:

  • 5 km trail run featuring rocky terrain and approximately 900 feet of elevation gain.
  • 10 km run on the Motor Mill Trail consisting of gravel and crushed limestone paths.

The 5 km course follows hiking trails through the park area, while the 10 km course includes a long climb followed by rolling sections and a descent toward the finish line. The event provides views of the local river valley and forest landscape. Registration is open to the public with options for online or paper entry. The event is scheduled for the first day of spring and brings together a community of runners to explore the historic park grounds and the surrounding conservation area. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
