AJ Bell Great Manchester Run
The Great Manchester Run is a large-scale city event held annually in Manchester. The event invites tens of thousands of participants to run through the city streets. Two main distances are available for participants:
- 10 km (open to runners aged 15 and older)
- Half Marathon (open to runners aged 17 and older)
The courses for both distances take runners past several well-known local landmarks, including the Imperial War Museum and the set of Coronation Street. The half marathon includes an incline at the start and a downward section toward the finish. The 10 km route features a downhill section near the beginning and a short incline approaching the end. Both races begin on Portland Street and conclude on Deansgate.
The event features a high-energy atmosphere with live music, a dedicated soundtrack, and various entertainment zones along the route to support participants. For competitive runners, the event also hosts the UK Athletics 10k Road Race Championships.
Facilities for participants include a baggage service located near the start areas on Deansgate, Hardman Street, or Jackson’s Row. Runners receive a race number personalized with their name and containing a timing chip. After crossing the finish line, participants receive a medal, a finisher's bag with various items, and an optional finisher t-shirt. Those who choose to forgo the shirt can have a donation made to the National Trust Woodlands Appeal on their behalf.
Official event day tracking and results are provided through a mobile application, allowing friends and family to monitor progress. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
