Great American Triathlon
The Great American Triathlon is the 7th annual multi-leg race held on the American River Parkway in Rancho Cordova and the Sacramento region. The course follows the historic route of Eppie's Great Race and combines running, cycling, and paddling along public parks and river access points.
Race legs include:
- Run: 5.8 miles - William B. Pond Park to Guy West Bridge at Sac State
- Bike: 12.5 miles - Guy West Bridge to Sunrise Bridge, Fair Oaks
- Paddle: 6.1 miles - Sunrise Bridge to River Bend Park, Rancho Cordova
Competitors may enter as an individual Ironperson or as part of various relay team formats, including duo, three-person adult relay, junior relay, and a four-person tandem watercraft relay. Divisions include adult and junior Ironperson categories and more than 40 overall divisions. Space is limited to 250 teams and 600 Ironperson competitors.
Entry items include a premium event tee, finisher medal, food truck voucher, beer garden with live entertainment, free race photos, and parking. Awards are presented to the top three finishers in each division. The event benefits the American River Parkway Foundation and local children's charities.
Relay registration requires the team captain to pay the full team entry fee, create the team, select the division, and invite members to register. Safety requirements state that all cyclists and paddlers must wear helmets, all paddlers must wear shoes and a U.S. Coast Guard approved personal flotation device, and all watercraft participants must be able to self-rescue. Only registered competitors may be on the course.
Packet pickup is Friday, July 16, 2027, 4 to 7 pm at River Bend Park in Rancho Cordova; relay packets may be picked up by any team member and packets may optionally be mailed. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
