42km Grasmere Gallop
The Grasmere Gallop is a fully waymarked 42 km trail race that loops around Grasmere and neighbouring valleys. The route passes Alcock Tarn, Loughrigg summit, Rydal caves, Great Langdale Valley and Easedale Tarn, and includes approximately 1905 metres of ascent.
Aid provision on course comprises cold drinks at about mile 4 and mile 11, plus a checkpoint with drinks and snacks at about mile 17. There is an intermediate cut off at Stickle Tarn of 6 hours 15 minutes and a final event cut off of 9 hours. Runners who miss the intermediate cut off will be transported back to the finish.
Entry includes tracker hire so spectators can follow progress around the route. A locally made Langdale slate medal is awarded and cake is available at the finish. A GPX file of the route is provided for download.
All competitors must carry mandatory kit. Items required include a waterproof jacket and trousers with taped seams, hat and gloves, a fully charged mobile phone, the provided tracker, an emergency foil blanket or bivi bag, a basic first aid kit that includes blister plasters, a whistle, and sufficient food and drink. Kit checks take place at registration and spot checks may occur after the race. Any runner not carrying the full mandatory kit will be disqualified.
