Event overview

The Grasmere Gallop is a fully way-marked trail race of 42Km held on 31/05/2026. The route loops around Grasmere and neighbouring valleys, including Alcock Tarn, Loughrigg summit, Rydal caves, Great Langdale Valley, and Easedale Tarn. Total ascent is listed as 1905 metres. Entry includes tracker hire and finishers receive a locally made Langdale slate medal; cake is provided at the finish. Price is £55. A GPX route file is available.

Route, cut-offs and mandatory kit

There are cold drinks stations at approximately mile 4 and mile 11 and a checkpoint with drinks and snacks at approximately mile 17. There is a checkpoint at Stickle Tarn with a cut-off of 6 hours 15 minutes; any runner who misses this cut-off will be transported back to the finish. The final cut-off for the event is 9 hours.

All runners must carry a mandatory kit list. Required items include waterproof jacket and trousers with taped seams, hat and gloves, a fully charged mobile phone, the provided tracker, an emergency foil blanket or bivi bag, a first aid kit (including blister plasters, sterile dressing and tape), a whistle, and sufficient food and drink. There will be kit checks at registration and spot checks after the race; failure to carry the full mandatory kit will result in disqualification.
