Event overview

The Grasmere Gallop is a 42 km trail race held on 31/05/2026 as part of the Lake District Running Festival. The route is fully waymarked and totals about 1905 metres of ascent. Entry price is £55 and entry includes tracker hire so friends and family can follow runners' progress. A locally made Langdale slate medal is provided to finishers and there is cake available at the finish line.

Course and logistics

The course loops around Grasmere and neighbouring valleys, passing Alcock Tarn, Loughrigg summit, Rydal caves, Great Langdale Valley, and Easedale Tarn. There are cold drinks stations at approximately mile 4 and mile 11, and a checkpoint with drinks and snacks at approximately mile 17. A GPX file of the route is available for download.

Mandatory kit and safety

All runners must carry the full mandatory kit. Kit checks take place at registration and there will be post-race spot checks. Any runner found not carrying the full mandatory list will be disqualified. Mandatory items include waterproof jacket and trousers with taped seams, hat and gloves, fully charged mobile phone, the provided tracker, emergency foil blanket or bivi bag, a basic first aid kit, whistle, and sufficient food and drink.
