Grasmere Gallop at the Lake District Running Festival
The Grasmere Gallop is a set of waymarked off-road trail races held as part of the Lake District Running Festival at Grasmere Showground and Grasmere Sports Field. The Gallop races take place on the festival Saturday and use trails and paths around the Grasmere area.
Distances offered on Saturday include:
- 5.7 km family-oriented trail run or walk
- 10 km trail run
- 17 km trail run
- Marathon trail distance
- 10 km Nordic Walk
The 5.7 km event is popular with children and families; children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult. The festival also runs separate kids events in the sports field: a Teddy Dash for under 5s (about 200 m) and a 1 km Fun Run for ages 5 to 12.
All races provide free event photography and a finish line cake, and there is an option to purchase race medals and T-shirts. Entries for the Gallop races must be made in advance; only the kids Teddy Dash and kids Fun Run accept on-the-day registration. Festival facilities such as day parking, camping and showers are available to purchase with entries. Full competitor notes and event policies are issued closer to the event.
