Grapes of Wrath Triathlon
The Grapes of Wrath event takes place at Lake Woollomes, three miles southeast of Delano, California. The venue is a 300-acre reservoir with about four miles of shoreline where swimming is allowed. A boat dock and launch ramp serve non-powered boats such as sailboats, SUPs, and kayaks.
Event formats include multiple in-person and virtual options. In-person offerings include triathlon, duathlon, aquathlon, aquabike, relays, and standalone running races. The road bike course is described as fast and flat and the run course includes both trail and paved sections.
Distances and formats include:
- Sprint Triathlon: 800 yard swim, 10.75 mile bike, 3.1 mile run
- Olympic Triathlon: 1600 yard swim, 21.5 mile bike, 6.2 mile run
- Sprint Duathlon: 3.1 mile run, 10.75 mile bike, 3.1 mile run
- Sprint Aquathlon: 800 yard swim, 3.1 mile run
- Sprint Aquabike: 800 yard swim, 10.75 mile bike
- Olympic Aquabike: 1600 yard swim, 21.5 mile bike
- 5K and 10K running races
Virtual race options specify completion windows and distances, for example the virtual triathlon requires swimming 800 yards, biking 10.5 miles, and running 3.1 miles by August 30th. Other virtual events have similar distance and date requirements listed.
Registered athletes receive a custom t-shirt, athlete goody bag, swim cap, finisher's medal, post-race meal, Rosa Brother's chocolate milk, free race photos, and are eligible for raffle prizes and awards three-deep in each division. A USA Triathlon membership is required for triathlon entries but not for the 5K or 10K. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
