The 28th Annual Granite Bay Triathlon
The Granite Bay Triathlon takes place at Granite Beach within the Folsom Lake State Recreation Area in California. This multisport event features a sprint distance course that incorporates a lake swim, a multi-loop bike segment, and a trail run. The event also serves as the NorCal/Nevada Tri Club Championship, where clubs compete for an overall title based on member performance.
Participants can enter the following categories:
- Triathlon: A 0.75 mile swim, 10 mile bike, and 5 mile run.
- Triathlon Relay Team: A team format covering the same distances.
The competition begins with a 0.75 mile swim in Folsom Lake, where water temperatures are typically around 68 degrees. Wetsuits are recommended for this portion of the race. Following the swim, the 10 mile bike course consists of multiple laps on roads entirely within the park that are closed to vehicle traffic. This segment includes several small hills and tight turns through wooded areas.
The final leg is a 5 mile run on single-track trails along the lake. The out and back run route includes three aid stations provided with water, electrolyte beverages, and energy gels. All finishers receive a commemorative shirt and hat, and a post-race lunch is provided at the venue. Awards are presented to the top overall male and female finishers, as well as the top three participants in ten-year age groups. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
