Grand Valley Backyard
The Grand Valley Backyard is an inaugural backyard ultra held in Loma, Colorado on October 3, 2026. The event follows the traditional Backyard format: runners complete 4.17 miles each hour on a loop, all start a loop together, and the race continues until only one runner remains. Results record the total distance achieved; a DNF is recorded only if a runner fails to complete a loop.
The course is mostly single track with some double track, contains no pavement, and rises about 500 feet per loop with most gain in the first half. The terrain is described as runnable and non-technical. A large staging area is provided near the start/finish corral and nearby campgrounds.
Awards include distance-specific buckles for all achieved distances, acrylic awards for last male and last female standing, and a Sheridan buckle for the overall winner. All finishers receive a tri-blend shirt, a race sticker, a draw-string bag, and a finishers buckle noting exact mileage. Organizers will supply water and a named endurance fuel at the corral; runners are asked to bring any required food.
Crew members are permitted with limits and rules: keep crews to three people or fewer, use a 10x10 area per runner, stake or weight pop-ups, keep children under control, and no dogs in the crew area or on course. No gas generators are allowed in crew spaces. Registration closes on September 25 at 11:59 PM MT. Deferral and credit policies apply as stated by the organizer.
