Grand to Grand Ultra - Kanab
The Grand to Grand Ultra is a self-supported stage footrace across the high desert of the Colorado Plateau in the USA. The event crosses desert terrain from the Grand Canyon and takes place at elevations of approximately 5,000 ft (1,524 m) to almost 8,700 ft (2,652 m). The 2027 edition is billed as the Founders' Farewell edition.
The race is organised as a multi-day stage event: 6 stages / 7 days covering 171 miles / 275 km. Each morning a camp is erected in a new location to receive competitors at the end of the stage. The route runs through remote territory where there is very little mobile phone signal.
Organisers provide information and guidance on topics such as hydration and electrolyte management, heat illness, foot care, and risk management for remote desert travel. The event materials also describe lessons about treating water as a limited resource and encourage a period of reduced electronic device use while on course. Past participation has included more than 1,200 runners from over 60 countries.
The event page notes that competitors should be physically and mentally prepared for back-to-back long days and camping in remote desert conditions.
