Grand to Grand Ultra - Kanab
The Grand to Grand Ultra is a self-supported stage footrace that crosses the high desert of the Colorado Plateau in the USA, starting from the area of the Grand Canyon. The event is described as the first and only self supported stage footrace in North America and in 2026 will run its 13th edition.
The race covers approximately 171 miles / 275 km over six stages across seven days. Competition takes place in remote terrain at altitudes of about 5,000 feet (1,524 m) up to almost 8,700 feet (2,652 m). Camp for competitors is erected each morning in a unique location to receive the arriving runners.
Organisers note the remoteness of the course, including areas with very little mobile phone signal, and state that risk management is taken seriously. The event historically emphasises self-sufficiency for competitors and, for 2026, also includes a supported category alongside the self-supported format. The race material on logistics and preparation covers topics such as hydration, foot care, heat illness and appropriate sleeping gear for desert conditions.
