Grand Rapids Public Schools Turkey Trot

The Grand Rapids Public Schools Turkey Trot is an annual community event held in Grand Rapids, Michigan. This tradition, now in its 33rd year, serves as a fundraiser to support athletics for students within the Grand Rapids Public Schools system. The event features several participation options centered around the Van Andel Arena on Fulton Street.

Participants can choose from a variety of distances and formats:

  • 5K Run Walk
  • 5K GRPS Students (specific registration for district students)
  • Mini Trot (a .4 mile loop around the arena for children)
  • My Team Triumph 5k
  • Virtual 5k Run Walk

The 5K course includes one water station located near the halfway point. For the safety of participants, the streets are closed to traffic for one hour, after which runners must move to the sidewalks. Strollers are permitted on the course, though owners are asked to line up at the rear of the starting group. Pets are not allowed to participate in the event.

Registered 5K participants receive a shirt and a timing bib. Awards are presented to the top three finishers in various age categories, with medals available for pickup inside the venue. Additionally, pumpkin pies are awarded to the first-place overall male and female runners and the winners of specific age groups. Mini Trot participants receive a medal for their completion of the loop. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
