Grand Olde Route of York Trail Run
This trail running event takes place across the Escrick Estate and Skipwith Common National Nature Reserve in Yorkshire. The route uses long woodland tracks, solid gravel and hard-packed trails that allow sustained running over mostly flat ground.
Distances
- 21.1k Half Marathon
- 10k
The woodland sections pass beneath towering Redwoods. The course continues onto Skipwith Common where open heathland and areas of woodland provide wilder terrain. Longhorn cattle graze parts of the Common and runners may see deer and other wildlife. Parts of the landscape still show traces of a Second World War RAF airfield.
Route details include measured distance and modest elevation gain – the 21.1k route records about +79m and the 10k about +38m. The course is fully signed using pink arrows and tape, with hazards and junctions marked.
Event services listed for participants include chip timing, water stations, course marshalls, first aid cover, an event photographer, a finisher certificate and finish line goodies including a finisher medal. Route maps and GPX files are available for the two distances. The event is presented as an established fixture with over ten years of history and an expected field above 1000 runners.
