Grand Explorers' Trail Race
The Grand Explorers' Trail Race links Grand River County Park and Grand Ravines County Park via the Idema Explorers Trail. The event includes a 10K, a 5K, and a 1-mile kids fun run. It is described as the fifth annual running of the event, scheduled for June 19, 2027, in Jenison, Michigan.
The course begins at Grand River County Park and follows the river to Grand Ravines County Park. Runners pass a covered bridge and ascend a short incline to a river overlook; this point is the turnaround for the 5K. The 10K continues through Grand Ravines Park, around a dog park, across a suspension bridge, through a meadow, and back through woods to Grand River Park.
Trail surface varies. A significant portion along the river is paved: about two miles for the 5K and about four miles for the 10K. The remaining trail is dirt or grass with roots and uneven ground and may become muddy after rain. The 10K also includes some steps.
The race supports the Ottawa County Parks Foundation and highlights projects such as the Grand River Greenway and the Idema Explorers Trail. The event is open to families, including dogs, and walkers. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
