Event Details
The Gold Star Run for Honor is a Memorial Day weekend running and walking event held in Saugus, Massachusetts. It takes place on Saturday, May 23, 2026, at Saugus Town Hall on 298 Central Street.
Race Distances
The event offers several distance options:
- 5K
- 10K
- 1 Mile Walk
- Kids Fun Run for participants aged 10 and under.
The Kids Fun Run is a quarter-mile event starting at 7:50 AM, while the 5K and 10K races start at 8:00 AM. Strollers and dogs are permitted. The 5K and 10K courses are described as a mix of flat and rolling terrain with one significant climb. All distances start simultaneously, intersect, and split at various points, with water and electrolytes available at fuel stops.
Registration and Swag
Registration and packet pickup open at 6:45 AM on race day. Race fees vary based on distance and registration date. Pre-registered participants receive custom race bibs and finisher medals. T-shirts are guaranteed for those who pre-register by May 10. Pre-registered children in the Kids Fun Run are also guaranteed a t-shirt.
Awards and Festivities
Cash prizes are awarded to the top three male and female finishers in both the 5K and 10K races. Age group awards are given for first, second, and third place across multiple categories, and there are top three awards for non-binary participants. Post-race festivities include a variety of community sponsors and vendors, with hot dogs provided for all participants, other food and drink, and live entertainment.
Beneficiary
The event is held in memory of Scott Procopio, who was killed in action in Ramadi, Iraq in 2006. One hundred percent of the event's proceeds go to the CPL Scott J. Procopio Memorial Scholarship program, which provides academic scholarships to high school seniors. The event has raised over $25,000 annually for the past six years.
